November 2008 - Consultation on changes to the PAF® licence
A formal consultation on the Royal Mail's 2009 PAF® licence has now started and will run until the 24th December 2008. To find out more about how to get your comments across and for information on workshops regarding the licence changes, please visit Royal Mail's website.
We will also continue to be involved with this consultation as both a PAF® reseller and also with our work on the PAF® advisory board. We have always and will continue to support the use of per-click licencing, improved options at entry level and making the licence fair, simple and clear. If you'd like to pass us your comments or feedback about the licence we would be happy to hear from you. You can reach us on 01508 494488 or by email.
November 2008 - Working for a better licence
Allies Computing listens carefully to feedback from customers about the PAF® data licence and takes the main issues forward at every opportunity with Royal Mail. The issues we feel strongly about are:
- Allowing Per Click licences for internal use.
- Better multi application and multi company licencing.
- Promoting wider use.
- Improving options at entry level.
- Making the licence fair, simple and clear.
We are responding at every opportunity to encourage changes to the PAF® licence through:
- Meetings with the Royal Mail Address Management Unit.
- Consultation processes.
- Providing supporting evidence.
- Membership of the PAF® Advisory Board www.pafboard.org.uk who meet bi-monthly.
Royal Mail's consultation process on the 2009 PAF® licence is due to open on 4th November 2008. To keep updated, you can refer to the Advisory Board's website linked above and we will update our website with any confirmed news as soon as we have any.
August 2008 - Statement from Allies Computing about the 2009 licence
The Address Management Unit within Royal Mail is in the process of reviewing the PAF® data licencing terms and pricing. In September 2009 a new licence agreement will be released to the market and all of our products and services will have to comply with these terms. Royal Mail does not wish to disrupt the marketplace but there will be some changes to the current terms and pricing, and we are expecting some positive changes.
As part of this process, there will be an opportunity for Resellers (such as Allies Computing Ltd) and End Users, to respond to the proposals which are planned for release in November/December 2008. Royal Mail is encouraging feedback on the new proposals and this page will be updated in November 2008 to advise you how to submit your feedback. Unfortunately this does mean that Allies Computing cannot confirm what licence terms will be available from September 2009 at the present time, but we endeavour to keep our customers up to date as best we can.
We are representing our customers' needs in licence discussions with Royal Mail through our participation on the PAF® Advisory Board. For copies of the notes and to keep track of progress, see www.pafboard.org.uk.
